Volker is a physician with more than 20 years of academic and industry experience in the research and commercialization of biomarkers. He is passionate about translating innovative diagnostics and improving healthcare at scale.
Over the last 18 years, Volker has held several leading Medical Affairs positions in the life science industry, driving the implementation of novel biomarkers and IVD products. Most recently, Volker was with illumina heading the Medical Affairs team in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). In this role he interacted with international societies, leading healthcare institutions and companies to drive the generation and dissemination of evidence proving the value of genomics to improve human health. Prior to illumina, Volker has worked with several molecular diagnostic companies including QIAGEN GmbH, Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., and Epigenomics AG, with medical responsibility across multiple indications in oncology, infectious diseases, and prenatal screening.
Dr. Liebenberg holds a medical degree from the University of Cologne and served as a Medical Officer in UK’s NHS and Germany.
